Internet Access

Ethernet

Wired Connection

Podium Ethernet
This classroom has a wired ethernet cable located in the cable corral of the podium for presenter use.

Each room also has at least one active ethernet port for use with the internet.
The port will be marked with a yellow dot.
There should be an ethernet cable in the rack drawer to use with the port.
If you find one is missing, please call Classroom Media Assistance at 874-4278.

Wireless Access

If you are unable to get online using the wired port, or if you prefer, all rooms also have wireless internet access.
If you have not used wireless access in the past, please be sure to test out your laptop before class starts.
Some manufacturers have special programs or settings that control wireless, or your machine may have a physical button that needs to be selected.

If you have never used your laptop on the URI network, you will be asked to download and install and electronic policy key. You probably don't want to do this during class time as it can be time consuming, so connect your laptop in your office first and get this step out of the way.

To authenticate with the policy site:
- Use your URI eCampus username
- With your Sakai/wireless password.

If you don't know your password, please call the URI Help Desk at 401-874-4357.

Getting Started

Once the system is powered on select a source. To use the installed computer select 'Podium Computer' as the source.
Once a source is selected touch the near or far projector button under the destination panel to send the image to the projector.

From this screen you can control all the aspects of the media in the classroom.
NOTES:

  • The Display Power ON and warm-up cycle time for the projector is 2 minutes.
  • Any attempt to power OFF within this time period may crash the system.
  • The warm-up time is complete when the green light on the projector is no longer blinking.
  • The projector can be re-powered ON- if needed again- after the 2-minute cool-down cycle.

NOTES:

  • To send the image to both projectors touch both the Near and Far Projector icons.
  • You may choose to send a different source to each projector. (ex: You may display the Podium Computer on one projector and use the document camera on the other projector.)

Return the microphone to media drawer in podium.

Basic Troubleshooting for CBLS

Q: The Projector isn't showing what I want it to, it just has a blue screen, what do I do?

A: First, make sure that you are using the correct source. If you are trying the display from your laptop, you first have to touch the "VGA Laptop" icon on the screen. If you are trying to use a DVD, push the DVD/VCR button. After the correct source is selected, be sure to send the source to the projectors. If this step is not completed you may see your source on the podium, however that source is not projecting to the classroom. Second, if trying to display a laptop or document camera image, make sure that the VGA cable is securely fastened.

Q: I don't have sound! Help!

A: Don't panic! Is the Program Volume set to "Mute"? Try pressing the mute button and see if the sound comes back. Maybe the sound volume itself isn't high enough. Try turning up the volume using the steps outlines in Audio Adjustment above. Also, make sure that the media source that you are using sound from is that last source that was selected and sent to the projectors.

Q: The computer monitor on the podium is not displaying!

A: The Mac is probably turned off inside the podium. Open the podium-right side door. Locate the small silver Apple computer (approximately 5" square). Look at the back where all the cables are connected. On the lower left corner is a small round on/off button, the button is not raised and can be difficult to locate. If the machine is on, the front of the unit will show a very small glowing white light. If the machine is off, depress the on/off button on the back. If the machine is on, check the VGS cable on the back and the mac adapter to make sure they have not come loose.

Q: My DVD isn't working, how can I get it to play?

A: Make sure that you are using the correct format in the correct player. A Blu Ray DVD will NOT work in a normal DVD player, you have to use the Blu Ray Player. HD DVDs are NOT the same as Blu Ray. They will NOT work in either the Blu Ray player or the regular DVD Player. Otherwise, try cleaning your DVD with a paper towel by making slow circular motions from the center of the DVD outwards. Try playing your DVD again. If that still isn't working, perhaps you aren't on the correct setting. Make sure you have pressed the "DVD" or "BLU RAY" icon on the touch screen.

If you still need assistance please do not hesitate to call Classroom Media Assistance at 874-4278 either during your class for on the spot assistance, or after your class to ensure that all of your questions are answered so that your class may run smoothly next time.

Locking Up

Please Remember to:

  1. On the Switcher, press the "Power Display OFF" button to turn Off the projector.
  2. Remove your media and Power Off the media machine used. Power Off your laptop. Return cables to the floor box and/or media case.
  3. Power OFF microphone and return to Classroom Media Assistance Office in Chafee 217.
  4. Turn the classroom Lights OFF. Shut all Exterior Doors.
  5. Swipe-lock the main door using your URI ID card. The card-reader light will blink green when in locked mode.

Security

Ask students waiting for the next class to remain outside the classroom until their instructor arrives.

As the Instructor, you are responsible for the room's security during your class time, so please lock up!
