To reserve the room, contact the Library Clerk in the second floor administrative offices, 874-4047.

Access

To access Galanti Lounge, pick up the keys from the Library Clerk in the second floor administrative offices. To use the equipment, contact Classroom Media Assistance (874-4278) to arrange for a training session.

Media Equipment

The Galanti Lounge in the Library has the following equipment installed:
Main Lounge

  • installed, ceiling-mounted LCD projector and screen
  • audio-visual rack with DVD, VCR player and cassette recorder/player
  • wireless microphones (2 handhelds and 1 lavalier microphone)
  • wired/wireless Internet access


Side Lounge

  • installed, ceiling-mounted LCD projector and screen
  • audio-visual rack with DVD, VCR player and cassette recorder/player
  • wired/wireless Internet access



Note: The equipment in the A/V racks in the side and main lounge are identical except the wireless microphones (both lavalier and handheld) are associated with only the Main Lounge rack.

There is no window treatment for the skylight. The Main Lounge is equipped with a 10,000 lumen LCD projector for presentations. If the room is too bright, the event may be moved to the slightly darker Side Lounge.

Directions Main Lounge

Light Switches

The controls for lighting are located on the wall to your left as you enter the main entrance. Each of the seven on/off and dimmer switches controls an independent system of lights in the main lounge.

Screen

The Projection Screen opens in front of the windows. It displays the image generated by the Main Lounge LCD Projector. The screen is retractable, and is operated by the Projector Screen Switch located on the wall behind and to the left of the screen. Up position, the screen will retract; Down position, the screen will drop; Middle position, stops the screen movement.

Projector

The Main Lounge Projector is permanently mounted to the ceiling just inside the main doors, and is operated through the Extron Switcher in the Main Lounge Media Rack.

Four status lights are located in the front left corner and back left corner of the Main Lounge LCD projector. The green "Ready" light and the red "Lamp" light are the only two that will light up unless there is a problem.

The four common projector status levels are shown with light indications:

Main Lounge Media Rack

The Media Rack is recessed in the wall to the left of the Projection Screen. It contains all of the media devices to be used in the Main Lounge. It is secured with a key lock.

Rack Power Module - The switch on the far-right side of the rack power module controls the power to the media rack. This power switch should always be left powered on. The Rack Power Module also has two extendible light shafts for added visibility, and a switch with a dimmer knob to control brightness.

Remember: Turn off the light switch before you push the light shafts back in, or it may damage the internal hardware.

Extron Switcher - The Extron Switcher controls the projector's power, as well as the audio/video feeds to the projector. The volume Control knob is located at the upper-right corner of the Extron Switcher panel.

VCR - Plays only NTSC (Region 1 - North America) format VHS and S-VHS videotapes. This unit must be manually powered on/off.

Turning the projector On/Off:

First, check that the main power switch on the power module is on (located at top right in media rack). The red light inside the switch will be glowing.

Press the green "Display Power" button on the top left of the Extron Switcher (highlighted right).

A green display indicates that projector is powered on. The projector will take 30 seconds to warm up and to reach full brightness.



Important Note: The Display power-on and warm-up cycle time for the projector is 2 minutes. Any attempt to power-off within this time period will crash the system. The warm-up time is done when the green light on the projector is no longer blinking.

The projector can be powered-on again, if needed, after the 2-minute cool-down cycle.

Turning Off the Projector

Press the green Display Power button for 2 seconds. The Power Display button will not be lit. The last media source button used will remain lit.

Switching Between System Inputs

Select the appropriate input button on the Extron Switcher to display a media source through the projector. Each input button routes the signal for the specific media device indicated by the label on the button.

To select a device press the device’s video input button. It will light up indicating that it has been selected.

  • Computer - CPU1- The computer at the instructor's station is connected to the CPU 1 switch on the Extron Switcher module. Press button 1 to use this computer as the system input.

Note: Audio is available with this input. Use the separate mini-plug cable(black) and connect from media rack to headphone plug in computer.

  • Computer - CPU2 - Laptop data is transmitted through the VGA cable #2. This cable is stored on the top of the Media Rack



  • DVD Player - To control the DVD, use the buttons on the face of the DVD player or the DVD remote control stored in the Media Rack Drawer. This unit must be powered on and off separately from the main rack (although it may or may not have been left on by the previous user).


  • VCR - To control the VCR use the buttons on the face of the VCR player or the VCR remote control stored in the Media Rack Drawer. This unit must be powered on and off separately from the main rack (although it may or may not have been left on by the previous user).

  • Input 7- These jacks are available to connect alternative video sources (e.g. Video Camera, etc.). Available jacks include RCA (component- video and two audio--stereo left and right channel), VGA (computer hook-up), S-video, and stereo mini-jack. The cables for these connections are not provided in the room. If you have any questions about the use of these jacks with an auxiliary device, ask Classroom Media Assistance (874-4278).


Side Lounge Media Rack

The Media Rack in the side lounge is located to the left of the Projection Screen. It is secured with a key lock and contains all the media equipment installed in the side lounge.

Before Leaving the Room

Turn off the Projector using the Extron Switcher Module. Press the Display Power Button. The power button will blink as it cools down.

Please remember to leave the main power on (located on the power module at the top of the rack).

Note: The last used source button remains lit.

Locking Up

Please Remember to:

  1. On the Switcher, press the "Power Display OFF" button to turn Off the projector.
  2. Remove your media and Power Off the media machine used. Power Off your laptop. Return cables to the floor box and/or media case.
  3. Power OFF microphone and return to Classroom Media Assistance Office in Chafee 217.
  4. Turn the classroom Lights OFF. Shut all Exterior Doors.
  5. Swipe-lock the main door using your URI ID card. The card-reader light will blink green when in locked mode.

Security

Ask students waiting for the next class to remain outside the classroom until their instructor arrives. As the Instructor, you are responsible for the room's security during your class time, so please lock up!
