[UNIX] is an operating system, written in C, designed to be used by multiple people. It is relatively hardware independant and continues to be one of the most common platforms on which to run servers. UNIX, originally produced by AT&T, has been purchased by [Novell] who continue to distribute a version called UNIXWare. Linux is a UNIX-like operating system.
