To move screen down, slowly pull on attached string.
To move screen up, pull gently on attached string, and it will automatically rise.
Please put the screen up at the end of class.
If the cord used to pull down the screen is wrapped around the screen, CMA has put a screen wand ( a dowel with a cup hook attached) in each classroom. You can use the cuphook end to grab the cord and pull it down towards you.
PLEASE NOTE: Do not jerk or pull down the screen with too much force, this may cause the screen to be locked in the down position. If this happens, please call Classroom Media Assistance 874-4278 for assistance.
The projector is located in the middle of the classroom on the ceiling.
Do not operate manually-- use the switcher located in the black Digital Media rack.(Directions below).
You do not need to turn the projector on. It will turn on automatically when you choose your input source (Video, VGA, HDMI, or BluRay)
Please turn the projector off when done (directions below).
To use an overhead projector:
1. Plug in the projector.
2. Select which bulb you wish to use (1 or 2).
3. Press the power on button.
The projector should now be illuminated and the fan should be running. Place your transparency on the projector and adjust the top mirror as necessary to get a clear image.

Digital Media Equipment
Digital Media Rack
A black equipment rack is located in each Digital Media room. The rack opens in front to access the switcher controls and equipment needed for classroom use.
To access this equipment, faculty please request a key from Classroom Media Assistance in the Library (LL4).
This rack includes, in order from top to bottom:
- a digital media switcher
- an audio panel for use by techs only
- a BluRay DVD player
- a drawer with cables
- a panel with input jacks for external video and computer sources
- an audio amplifier for sound (for use by techs only)
- a pull-out shelf for laptop use
Digital Media Switcher
The Switcher controls both the signal from media equipment to the projector, and the functions of the DVD player.
- The projector will be turned on when you select your source, however, you must turn the projector off when done by using the "System Off" button located on the switcher (near the volume knob).
- The warm-up cycle time for the projector can take as much as 2 minutes to start up and 10 seconds for the light on the projector to start flashing after a source is selected.
- Hold the "System Off" button for 2-seconds to turn off the projector.
- When the projector is completely off, the light above the button will become red. This may take 10 seconds.
- Any attempt to power OFF within the 2 minute Start-Up or Cool-down cycle may crash the system. (The warm-up time is complete when the green light on the projector is no longer blinking.)
- If needed again, the projector can be powered ON after the 2-minute cool-down cycle.
Video equipment (e.g., cameras or VCRs) or computers can be used as sources with this equipment rack. These devices would plug into the row of input jacks located on a panel in the lower third of the rack (shown above).
In order form left to right, these jacks are:
- Component video: The color-coded jacks (red, white,yellow) are for a video source. The red and white are for audio (stereo) and the yellow is for video.
- VGA: for a laptop either directly connecting through the VGA cable or using an adapter, such as an Apple MiniDisplayPort to VGA. A VGA cable is included in the drawer. If needed, adapters can be reserved and checked out through Classroom Media Assistance in the Lower Level of the Library (LL4).
- HDMI: for either a laptop or a video camera with a HDMI ports. An HDMI cable is included in the drawer.

In the top row of buttons are the source selections for Video, VGA, and HDMI.
The source selection for the BluRay (DVD) player is the first button in the second row.
Also in the second row of buttons are the Menu, Play, Stop, and Pause functions. The Menu button accesses the top level menu of the DVD for features such as subtitles or language control.
In the bottom row of buttons are found the --------, Last Chapter, Scan Rewind, Scan Forward, and Next Chapter functions. The ------ button controls the routing of audio, it should be selected ONLY WHEN you have an HDMI laptop where sound is not included in the HDMI signal. You will need to connect the audio part of the VGA cable to your laptop headphone jack to the VGA sound jack on the rack input panel. Please ask for help the first time you need this.
Please do not touch the audio panel in the rack, it is for use by technical staff only.
The power switch on this unit shuts down the entire system and will take approximately 10 minutes to regain status where the system can be used. Please do not switch off.

Connecting a Laptop
Laptop shelf is located at bottom of equipment rack
A laptop shelf is located at the bottom of the equipment rack, just pull the shelf out towards you to use.
1. Connect the VGA or HDMI cable to the laptop.
2. The VGA cable also includes an audio component, connect this to the laptop if needed. HDMI includes audio, so a separate audio cable is unnecessary.
3. Turn the laptop on.
4. Select source VGA or HDMI on the switcher. (This will turn on the projector.) The startup screen should appear on the laptop and the projector screen after several seconds.
- If the projector is on and the computer itself is not, you may see either a black screen (HDMI) or blue screen (VGA).
- If an adapter is needed (i.e. DVI to VGA or Mini-DisplayPort to VGA or HDMI), you can borrow one from Classroom Media Assistance in the Lower Level of the Library (LL4).
- If an image does not appear when a Windows laptop is connected, try using the function key for display selection (i.e. Fn + F4 or F8). It may take up to 10 seconds for the display to switch between display options.
- If an image does not appear when using a Mac, go to System Preferences (under the Apple Menu in the upper left), select the Displays preference pane, and click "Detect Displays." Click on the Arrangement tab, then choose to either mirror the display or extend the desktop to the projector.
Your computer should automatically select the optimum display for use with the projector. If you want to change those settings, CMA recommends:
- If a 4:3 aspect ratio is preferred, use 1024 x 768 with a refresh rate of 60 Hz as your display settings.
- If a 16:10 aspect ratio is preferred, use 1280 x 800 as your display settings.
If there is no image, be sure to check whether video output is active (e.g. Function + F8, or similar command)
Using the BluRay (DVD) Player

To turn the BluRay Player on or off, press the power button located on the bottom edge of the left side of the player. (This button is very small.)
To insert a disk, use the open tray button on the middle bottom edge of the player and use this button to close the disk tray. To eject the disk, use this same buttons.
BluRay DVD Player control buttons located in second and third rows
Except for the on/off button and disk tray open/close, all controls for the BluRay Player are located in the second and third rows of the Switcher at the top of the rack.
To change the volume, use the knob located on the right side of the Switcher.
Training Video Clip
- If the projector does not turn on, please call CMA 874-4278. There may have been a brown-out or power loss and the projector will need to be reset.
- If you do not see an image on the screen, but the system is turned on, make sure the source (DVD, camera, computer) has power and is correctly connected. Some sources will display a black screen when the unit is not giving a signal, some sources will show a blue screen.
- If the Windows computer image is shown on the laptop monitor but not the screen, use the FN + F4/F8 buttons pressed simultaneously and twice very fast. Pressing the keys only once moves the display from the monitor to the projector, pressing twice moves the display to both projector and monitor. Most computers use FN + F4, others FN + F8. Look at the FN keys (F1 -F14) to see which have an icon for a monitor on them.
- If you enter a DM classroom and the projector is on but you will not be using it for your class, please help us conserve energy and lamp life by shutting the projector off. (Hold downt eh System Off button on the Switcher for 2 seconds.)
- If the screen is locked in the down position, please call CMA 874-4278.
Locking Up Procedures
1. On the Switcher, press the "Power Display OFF" button to turn Off the projector.
2. Remove your media and Power Off the media machine used. Power Off your laptop. Return cables to the floor box and/or media case.
3. Lock up Digital Media Equipment.
4. Turn the classroom Lights OFF. Shut all Exterior Doors.
5. Swipe-lock the main door using your URI ID. The card reader light will blink green when in locked mode.
Ask students waiting for the next class to remain outside the classroom until their instructor arrives. As the Instructor, you are responsible for the room's security during your class time, so please lock up!
